Sojourn Fare
Sojourn Fare is about building the future we want, rather than accepting the one we’ll be given. This is accomplished by building IoT hardware and software that automates and assists the process of cultivating mushrooms.
As a startup project that started as a side project, and grew into a full-time gig, it was an exercise in being a high-functioning generalist. I led every aspect of design from branding and messaging to 3D modeling and writing a high school curriculum. And along the way, I worked with the great and powerful, Justin Smith, on the programming… cus that’s not my jam.
A partnership with Google Chicago’s Kitchen led to testing the unit in their cafeteria. For six months, the unit produced seven pounds of mushrooms every week.
After that, we partnered with ComEd to write a lesson plan and lead a day long seminar of high school kids who built their own automated mushroom chamber to grow their own mushrooms.
